OSCEOLA DISTRICT
NEWSLETTER,
SEPTEMBER 2006
Reminder that Roundtable is September 7th.
We hope that you can find the time to attend. This is the only place I am
aware of where you can find out what is coming up that isn’t on the
calendar. Popcorn Show and Sell order will be turned in at this roundtable
as per the calendar.
I have included in this newsletter the
Registration Form for the
University
of
Scouting
that will be held on 27 January. The Application is due by the 19th
of January. I have not sent you the 17 pages of classes (activities) that
you will be able to take at this Training Assembly. (See attachment 1, and
2.)
The fall Spookoree is scheduled for 27-28-29
October at Princess Place Preserve. Please talk it up and get your Units
there. The Cubs always enjoy this event. Bunny George and Al Lee Watkins
will co-chair this event and the OA will again do the haunted trail. These
folks have perfected this to be one of the best outings that we have.
Al Lee has sent out the Application for the
Coastal Beach Clean Up on September 16. If you have not received one you
must give us your e-mail address so that we can do more by e-mail.
Additional Applications will be available at roundtable.
April Pellicer has sent out Information on the
Camp
Out
at Alltel Stadium
On 5-6 November. Please get with her and get
in on an outstanding Camp
Out. I have included part of her e-mail as
Attachment #4.
I don’t have the numbers for this newsletter,
but I understand that our Cub Round Up was a great success.
Way to go for all of those
that were actively involved in the Roundup. I think our Round-ups are
generally successful, but I don’t think we do enough to keep our new cubs
excited about being in Scouting. I’ve actually heard that some of the new
Cubs don’t even have Den Leaders for weeks. I do know that lack of program
will fold a Den, or Pack, as well as Troops. Generally as you see the
numbers dwindle you best evaluate the Program/Leaders. These signs should
be pretty visible to the Unit Commissioners.
For the District Chairman, Program Chairman,
District Commissioner, Popcorn Chairman, Advancement, Training, Activities,
Camping, All are encouraged to attend the Council Coordinated Meeting which
will be at the Pinewood Presbyterian Church on
Tuesday September 12, 2006.
Al Lee has notified me that the Cub Camporee
Scheduled to be held on Feb. 9-11 at
Camp
Echockotee
has been changed to Feb 2-4. Please Cubmasters change your calendar and
plan on attending. Last years event was fun and full of excitement. All
Packs should make arrangements now to attend. (See Attachment #5.)
New Leader Essentials and Cub Scout Leader
Specific Training was held at the G & G building on Old Moultrie on August
19th. I haven’t received the attendance report as yet but I
understand it was well attended. I have a need to know what units are
totally trained or have sufficient Trained Leaders to keep the Scouts
motivated.
District popcorn sales “Attack” on Blitz Day
the 23rd of September. Be sure to have someone represent your unit for all
informational meetings.
This newsletter information
is sent to the Unit Leaders only. Please share the
Information with your
Charter Representative, your Assistants, and your Unit Committee.
