OSCEOLA DISTRICT NEWSLETTER
JUNE, 2007.

I sure can’t believe it is June already and all of our Boy Scouts are getting ready for Summer Camp and some of our Cub Scouts are attending Day Camp this week.

Thanks to Kelly Davis and her team for their services to this years Day Camp Program.  The Day Camp in St. Augustine will be July 9-13 at the Community Bible Church at 3150 US#1 south, from 8 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.  They will offer the TOT-LOT program to the parents who help.  Their kids not in the program can come for $25.00. Al Lee asks that I remind you that they need Boy Scouts to help that week.  Kelly said that they need more Leaders also.

Coming up this Thursday evening (6-7-07) is our Monthly Roundtable meeting.

Unit Commissioners don’t forget about the Commissioners meeting at 6:30 and the Roundtable will meet at 7:30.  We sure would like for you to attend the Roundtables.  When we get a good turn out the meeting(s) seem to be more productive.

I hope those Eagle Candidates or Eagles and parents attending the Cape Canaveral dedication on the 25th of May had a great time. It was highly publicized and if anyone has some group photos I would enjoy getting copies.

.

Hopefully everyone has visited the Osceola District Web Site: www.osceolascouts.com.   Mr. Pottridge has now put in some old Photos of many of the folks you will remember.  He also puts the Newsletter in on a monthly basis and usually leaves the last 3 Newsletters on the website and erases after that.  The District Calendar is also on the website except we still have to include October 2007.

THE CANOE RACE HAS BEEN SCRUBBED. NOT SUFFICIENT RESPONSE;

David Barfield, our Camping and Outdoor Activities Chairman, has cancelled this years canoeing activities.  See E-mail attached. Please let David Know what your interest is for next year. E-mail jamesjdavid@se.rr.com.

David Barfield has updated me on the status of the Troops who will be attending Summer Camp this year and where they are headed too.  We will need the Merit Badge Information when you return.  Thanks for your cooperation and support. We need this information even though your Tour Permit is normally what gets you Credit for attending a long term camp. We have found that often the Camp that you attended never supplies our Local Council any Information so it becomes our responsibility to make it happen.  THANKS

NOTE:   IF your selected Summer Camp is over 500 miles a national Tour Permit has to be processed, otherwise a Local Tour Permit has to be completed.

Please don’t forget to renew your HSR accident insurance.

Please tell the Parents if you don’t plan on carrying the insurance.  I don’t believe you can afford not to carry the Insurance.  Health Special Risk, Inc (HSR) is very reasonable.  I keep reminding you because I want the District Committee and our District Chairman to be able to say we told you so.  This leaves all the responsibility on the Leaders of the unit(s).

If your unit needs a Life to Eagle briefing or a project review be sure to call Dr. Clarke at 699-8138 on the north end of the County and Lou Nester at 814-4073 for the South End.  Thanks for your continued service in helping these Life to Eagle Scouts. Dr. Clarke has had 2 Eagle Candidates to complete their EBOR, 2 Eagle Candidates have had their Eagle Projects

Approved and 2 more projects ready for review by the board.  They have several more from T-277 that will get their projects reviewed in the next several months.

St. Augustine Advancement Committee, Roy Blake and his team have approved 9 projects and 2 of those have been completed awaiting paperwork

For the EBOR Review and Merit Badges or paperwork completion.  The balance of 7 projects in work should be completed by August. We need all of this to happen and we need one (1) more Eagle by the end of the year to beat last year’s record.  Thanks to the Boards, the Applicable Scout Units and their Leaders and to the Eagle Candidates.  THANKS SO MUCH.

Steven Pellicer could use some help with his Eagle Project at the Guana State Park.  Please see the E-mail attached. Subject: Steven’s Eagle Project.

Attached is an e-mail from April Pellicer relative to what is coming up for the OA members.  A VERY IMPORTANT CHAPTER MEETING JUNE 14, 7:30 P.M. AT IHOP, St. Augustine

If you have any Training Experience or have attended the Train the Trainer, Training you may be qualified to teach certain subjects in the District.  The District Committee, Myself and the Leaders needing such training would appreciate you taking on a Training Position.  I would be glad to get your E-Mail relative to this position.    boyscoutlou@se.rr.com

THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE.

I have received 2 Blue Cards so far for the Automotive Merit Badge.  I can’t believe your Scouts are willing to throw away 3 hours of training and they only have 3 more hours to go.

I previously requested Merit Badge Cards for the Automotive Merit Badge so that I can get them to the Merit Badge Counselor and schedule the completion of the Merit Badge(s).  Please Cooperate and get those to me.

Lou Nester, 215 Dusty Road, St. Augustine, Fl 32095.

Also, I have the Fingerprinting Cards for your completion to get the Merit Badge for your Scouts.  Partials were done at the Crossover Camporee.

See me at Roundtable for those cards.

Parents and Scouts of ages 4 through grades 6.  Come on down to the OLYMPIAN FASCAR RALLY, Saturday June 9 from 10 A.M. --2 P.M.

Bring your Hot Wheels and Match Box Cars and enjoy the activities. Where COMMUNITY BAPTIST CHURCH of St. Augustine, 3150 US One South.

Please send email to your parents so that they can enjoy this activity.

THANKS FOR THE TIME YOU GIVE TO SCOUTING
