OSCEOLA DISTRICT NEWSLETTER,
JANUARY, 2007.
It is hard to believe
that the year 2007 is here. I look forward to a lot of good things
happening in the Osceola District this year. We have lost some people and
we are bringing on some good people who will help all of us to continue all
the good things that we do. Thanks for being a part of our District, no
matter what position you might service in. Be reminded to do your best in
any position you hold. THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE.
I want to thank Bunny
Geores and the folks from Troop 345 for their hard work with the Annual
District Banquet. I thought it went very well and shame on the folks that
said they would attend but didn’t. There was plenty of food and door
prizes. Pack 249 has signed up to host the banquet the first Thursday in
December this year. THANKS AlLee and Team for your support.
We need your support at
the Roundtables. I have repeated the notice from December 2006. I have 2
dates so far.
Roundtable in
January is on the 4th. We
will be having a breakout at the January Roundtable to plan the Calendar for
2007. Anyone having dates for the calendar must let me know sometime in
December 2006 so that it can be included in the planning process.
We sure hope to make the
Roundtables in 2007 more productive and exciting. It is with hope that all
of the Leaders will start attending so that they can obtain information that
will help them manage their units.
THIS IS VERY
IMPORTANT AND REPEATED FOR YOUR BENEFIT.
We have to touch on a
couple of subjects that I hope will not land on deaf ears or blind eyes.
YOU MUST make sure you are registered in the positions that you
are working. You must get trained in the position as soon as you are
assigned. All leaders or parents working with our youth must take the Youth
Protection Guidelines training. It can be done by a trainer or on line. In
any case you must get a trained card and have it with you at all times while
attending a scout function. Recently we sent to the Council office some
award request and found that some of the scouters wanting the awards were
never registered in the position that they wanted the award for OR they
failed to get Youth Protection Training. We have informed our readers
before and it must have fallen to deaf ears.
Buddy Haynes and myself
(and others) are very disappointed that the Charters were not prepared and
turned in on schedule. In spite of the special handling and phone calls,
several people were not able to meet the deadline.
I hope that we can do
better next time.
This notice was sent out
last month and sometime prior and it appears that this is not happening. If
those leaders in your units would share their E-mail #, I would be happy to
share the information with them directly.
I’m not sure that all of
the information needed by Assistant Leaders or Den Leaders actually ever
gets to them. This is why you should be having Unit Committee Meetings so
that planning can take place and that Administrative Information can get
passed down to the Leaders.
REPEAT: It sure would
be nice if everyone has turned in the Recharter Packets by the time you
receive this Newsletter. We wanted it in by the November Roundtable, but as
far as I know no one rushed to meet that deadline. The Recharter needs to
be done on line first, acknowledged, and all copies turned in to your unit
commissioner. For any one that has not done a recharter before I encourage
you to call your Unit Commissioner or our District Commissioner for
assistance.
Notice to all
Troop Leaders; From Justin Rutland

of camp. Please have
them contact me directly on my cell phone (904) 652-4014. I will be able to

Now News from Al
Lee Watkins our Civic Service and Activities Chairperson:
AlLee has advised that
she will have hand-outs at roundtable. Please make sure you get a copy and
attend the event to make it a great success.
Al Lee has notified me
that the Cub Camporee Scheduled to be held on Feb. 9-11 at Camp Echockotee has been changed to
