OSCEOLA DISTRICT
NEWSLETTER, DECEMBER, 2006.
Reminder that the District
Recognition Banquet replaced the Roundtable for December. Roundtable in
January is on the 4th.
We will be having a breakout at the January Roundtable to plan the
Calendar for 2007. Anyone having dates for the calendar must let me know
sometime in December 2006 so that it can be included in the planning
process.
We sure hope to make the Roundtables in 2007
more productive and exciting. It is with hope that all of the Leaders will
start attending so that they can obtain information that will help them
manage their units.
We have to touch on a couple of subjects that
I hope will not land on deaf ears or blind eyes.
YOU MUST make sure you are
registered in the positions that you are working. You must get trained in
the position as soon as you are assigned. All leaders or parents working
with our youth must take the Youth Protection Guidelines training. It can
be done by a trainer or on line. In any case you must get a trained card
and have it with you at all times while attending a scout function.
Recently we sent to the Council office some award request and found that
some of the scouters wanting the awards were never registered in the
position that they wanted the award for OR they failed to get Youth
Protection Training. We have informed our readers before and it must have
fallen to deaf ears.
I’m not sure that all of the information
needed by Assistant Leaders or Den Leaders actually ever gets to them. This
is why you should be having Unit Committee Meetings so that planning can
take place and that Administrative Information can get passed down to the
Leaders.
The Popcorn Money is due on 7 December at the
Ancient
City
Baptist
Church.
If you have changes to this please let me know so that people don’t sit
around for hours awaiting for someone to take the money. I experienced this
problem with turning in the popcorn orders. I hope everyone did well at
selling the popcorn this year. It didn’t sell as well for us this year as
it has in the past. Many people commented that it was expensive. If you
had this problem I hope you advised it was a Boy Scout Fund Raiser.
Congratulations to the best salesman. You are entitled to 35% of the sales
this year without prizes. If you are not using the Fair Share program then
I’m sure the units use the money to purchase unit equipment.
It sure would be nice if everyone has turned
in the Recharter Packets by the time you receive this Newsletter. We wanted
it in by the November Roundtable, but as far as I know no one rushed to meet
that deadline. The Recharter needs to be done on line first, acknowledged,
and all copies turned in to your unit commissioner. For any one that has not
done a recharter before I encourage you to call your Unit Commissioner or
our District Commissioner for assistance.
Now News from Al Lee
Watkins our Civic Service and Activities Chairperson:
Al Lee has notified me that the Cub Camporee
Scheduled to be held on Feb. 9-11 at
Camp
Echockotee
has been changed to Feb 2-4. Would all the Cubmasters please change your
calendars and plan on attending. She needs a Chairperson for this event.
Please give her a hand. Last years event was fun and full of excitement.
All cub Packs should make arrangements now to attend.
Scouting Day Event.
December 16th,
2006.
She needs volunteers to help with this activity.
The Scouting for food activity was not what we
had hoped for. It was held on Saturday 11 Nov. Food drop off was at the
Mission
grounds. The food was split between Catholic Charities and the Salvation
Army. This is a very worthwhile event and All Units are asked to participate
next year.
The Christmas Parade
was not well
attended at all. It appeared to have gotten split up some how. The
Uniform situation could have been better. The leisure walking didn’t look
like the Boy Scouts which leaves something that we can improve on next
year. I believe it would have looked much better with more Scouts. THANKS
TO THOSE THAT ATTENDED.
Cub Scout Day
is on Dec. 16th at St. Francis in the Field... The cost is $8.00
per boy. She will need Adult and Boy Scout Volunteers. Please contact her
at 904-347-1388 to volunteer. Activities will go on all day.
Volunteer’s area still needed for this
event.

TUESDAY December 5th is the annual
District Banquet in lieu of the December Roundtable. The event will be at

No fee is involved, but you must bring a desert dish to get in. If you are a
Scouter, wear the Uniform. The Chairman usually recognize their Staff and
the Unit Leaders can recognize their Den Leaders and Assistants. It would

WINNER. THANKS TO BUNNY GEORES AND HER CREW FOR THEIR HARD WORK IN
CHAIRING THIS EVENT.
