OSCEOLA DISTRICT NEWSLETTER
August, 2007.
The summer vacation
is over, the August Roundtable is upon us, and very shortly all of the
District will be heavily involved in round-up. Please make the Roundtable
this Thursday evening (8-02-07) at 7:30 at the Ancient City Baptist Church.
If you are a commissioner don’t forget the Commissioner Roundtable and
training at 6 P.M. at the same location.
I hope all Scouts and
Scouters had the opportunity to attend a long term Scout Camp this summer.
We haven’t received all the information requested for the Boy Scout Summer
Camps but we will pass on what we have and ask that you respond to this
request before the next newsletter. (See attachment)
Kelly Davis and her
team had a great Day Camp two different times in two different locations
this summer. My hat is off to Kelly and her team for a job well done. (See
her information attached).
We are trying to get
attachments from the folks who have something for the newsletter so don’t
forget that this is primarily for YOU, our Leaders and District
Committee member who have information to pass on to every interested
individual.
Jimmy Pottridge has
received a promotion with Wal-Mart and will be going to their headquarters.
First I would like to thank Jimmy for all of his work and dedication and
effort he put into the District Web Site. I have asked David Barfield to
work with Jimmy to keep things going real good as it has been with Jimmy.
Jimmy will be monitoring it from his new location and will be able to see
what is going on. THANKS JIMMY.

David Barfield and his
committee are working on the Spook-o-re planning. The weekend has moved in
one week because of Central Florida Scouting beating us to the Registrar.
It is now October 19-20-21, 2007. David also needs help with the activities
so if you feel productive, burn it off by helping with this FUN Activity.
Justin has asked that I
advise you that Saturday January 12th and Sunday January 13th is
a BIG day at the Daytona Speedway. This sounds like a lot of fun for all
who attend. See his
E-mail attached.
We have been approached
by St. Johns County to help with keeping the Beach in shape so that the new
born turtles can make it to the water as they are leaving their nest. Tara
Dodson advised me that they would like the Scouts, Parents and siblings to
draw out rakes from her inventory and rake a path from the nest to the
water. The path would be probably 4-6 ft. wide and made very smooth. It
would be at Vilano
Beach from the on ramp to the Reef
Restaurant. A plan would be for a drop off at the ramp and pick somewhere
in between. There would be 40 plus nests that would have to be done daily
after 7 P.M. The more teams we have the better it would be. Leaders
we need to get this information to all the parents as many of them would
like to know, I’m sure. You can register your team with Tara Dodson
by calling her work number 209-0336. This is considered a community project
and credit will be given to the Scouts as Community Service time.
Good Luck. Please help
and enjoy. (See attachment)

David Barfield has
updated me on the status of the Troops who will be attending Summer Camp
this year and where they are headed too. We will need the Merit Badge
Information when you return. Thanks for your cooperation and support.
We need this information even though your Tour Permit is normally what gets
you Credit for attending a long term camp. We have found that often the Camp
that you attended never supplies our Local Council any Information so it
becomes our responsibility to make it happen. THANKS
Please don’t forget to
renew your HSR accident insurance.
Please tell the Parents
if you don’t plan on carrying the insurance. I don’t believe you can afford
not to carry the Insurance. Health Special Risk, Inc (HSR) is very
reasonable. I keep reminding you because I want the District
Committee and our District Chairman to be able to say we told you so. This
leaves all the responsibility on the Leaders of the unit(s).
If your unit needs a
Life to Eagle briefing or a project review be sure to call Dr. Clarke at
699-8138 on the north end of the County and Lou Nester at 814-4073 for the
South End. Thanks for your continued service in helping these Life Scouts
to become an Eagle Scout.
PLEASE HELP THE
DISTRICT WITH THIS EFFORT.
If you have any
Training Experience or have attended the Train the Trainer, Training you may
be qualified to teach certain subjects in the District. The District
Committee, Myself and the Leaders needing such training would appreciate you
taking on a Training Position. I would be glad to get your E-Mail relative
to this position.

THANKS FOR YOUR
SERVICE.
I have received 3 Blue
Cards so far for the Automotive Merit Badge. I can’t believe your Scouts
are willing to throw away 3 hours of training and they only have 3 more
hours to go.
I am short cards for
some of the Scouts that did the first 3 hours of the Merit Badge. I had
previously requested Merit Badge Cards for the Automotive Merit Badge so
that I can get them to the Merit Badge Counselor and schedule the completion
of the Merit Badge(s). Please Cooperate and get those to me.
