OSCEOLA DISTRICT NEWSLETTER
APRIL,
2007
Coming up this Thursday
evening (4-5-07) is our Monthly Roundtable meeting.
Please attend as this is
the Monthly meeting with all of the leaders and is the only place we can be
updated on a monthly basis. Unit Commissioners don’t forget about the
Commissioners meeting at 6:30 and the Roundtable will meet at 7:30.
Before I get into the
things that is going on in the District I need to bring you up to speed on
our Web Site: www.osceolascouts.com
Mr. Pottridge has now
put in some old Photos of many of the folks you will remember. He also puts
the Newsletter in on a monthly basis and usually leaves the last 2
Newsletters on the website and erases after that. The District Calendar is
also on the website except we still have to include October 2007.
AlLee wanted me to
remind everyone about the Beach Clean Up 4-21-07. Wear Comfortable Clothes,
hats, and sunscreen. Bags, gloves and other supplies will be available at
Micklers Landing, Vilano Beach Ramp, St. Johns County Pier, and Crescent
Beach Ramp. You can choose the place to work. Hours 8 A.M. to 11 A.M. but
you can work longer if you need to. I will attempt to attach another Flyer.
We sure need a better turn out than what we had for the River Clean Up.
Don’t your scouts need service time? This is the best way to get it along
with teaching team work and other skills.
David Barfield asked if
we should have the Canoe Race this July. He needs your response as to
whether you want to attend or not. It will be very short. From Palmo Fish
Camp (County Boat Ramp) to Riverdale park. If you think you would like to
experience something different please send David an E-mail. Please let David
Know what your interest is. E-mail
jamesjdavid@se.rr.com.
David is in the process
of finding out where the Troops are going to Summer Camp, the number of
Scouts scheduled to go and the number of Leaders that are scheduled to go.
We need this information even though your Tour Permit is normally what gets
you Credit for attending a long term camp. If your selected Summer Camp is
over 500 miles a national Tour Permit has to be processed.
I just received the
insurance bill from the Troop accident Insurance carrier which reminds me to
tell you that you must have accident insurance if one of your Scouts gets
hurt at an outing, meeting or going to and from your Unit meetings. Please
tell the Parents if you don’t plan on carrying the insurance. I don’t
believe you can afford not to carry the Insurance. Health Special Risk, Inc
(HSR) is very reasonable. I keep reminding you because I want the
District Committee and our District Chairman to be able to say we told you
so. This leaves all the responsibility on the Leaders of the unit(s).
Notice to all
Troop Leaders; From Justin Rutland
For those of you that
may not know, I am serving as the Camp Director at Camp Shands this summer. I would
like for you to get the word out to your older boys that I am looking to
hire staff in the areas of: Waterfront, Dining Hall, Scout Skills,
Handicraft, First year program, and other various areas of camp. Please
have them contact me directly on my cell phone (904) 652-4014. I will be
able to answer any of their questions.
Thanks to Paul Starr for
a successful Pinewood Derby which too place at the Wards Creek Baptist Church, Saturday,
24th of March. I see where he had notified all of those that we
have e-mail addresses for or that we knew who the Cubmasters were. If you
enjoyed this event please send Paul and E-mail with your thoughts of
praise. THANKS
paulstarr@bellsouth.net
Attached is a flyer on a
very important issue having to do with you and your children. Please make
arrangements to attend.
We will have flyers for
the various day camps with the next issue of our newsletter. I hope that
every household has plans to let their children attend a youth camp of their
choice this year. It is very rewarding to the Kids.
We blocked out some
training this afternoon for some of the classes that we needed to get
coverage on. I will be calling you for your participation in these training
events. In the mean time I will be looking for trainers since Patricia
Harding gave notice a few days ago. Thanks Patricia for your services.
If your unit needs a
Life to Eagle briefing or a project review be sure to call Dr. Clarke at
699-8138 on the north end of the County and Lou Nester at 814-4073 for the
South End. Thanks for your continued service in helping these Life to Eagle
Scouts.
If you have any Training
Experience or have attended the Train the Trainer Training you may be able
to apply for a District Training Position. I would be glad to get your
E-Mail relative to this position.
